BIOGRAPHY
All-American wrestler, 2000 State Champ (189 pounds), state champion hurdler and All-State football player are a glance into the athletic accomplishments of Nick Baumgartner. His rise in SBX started in ‘04 when he won the USASA Nationals and U.S. Extreme Boarderfest, yet he blasted onto the scene in '07 after winning the VISA U.S. Snowboardcross Championships at Tamarack Resort, ID.
UPDATE
It was a spectacular season for Baumgartner who pulled in his first career World Cup win, in Lake Placid, NY. Never one to take the easy road, Baumgartner had to race his semifinal heat twice when a gate malfunction led to an official decision to hold the heat again. He still won the re-run and captured the victory. "It feels so good. I've been riding well all year but I just hadn't been putting it all together," Baumgartner said. "I took my line and there was no taking it away. I just kept going as hard as I could and made sure I was aggressive with my line."
To cap off the excitement, the result clinched Baumgartner's spot as the 2008 Visa U.S. SBX champion.
FIRST TRACKS
Like most growing up in the frozen tundra of Northern Michigan, snow found Nick and he's done (and does) pretty much everything there is to do with the fluff, snowboarding just came along like the newspaper - daily.
